Located in the Lanaudière region, one hour from Montreal, the Matawinie covers an area of 11,000 km.2With a distance of 200 km between north and south and a population of around 50,000, the region is home to 15 villages and one Atikamekw reserve, Manawan. Its economy is based mainly on recreational tourism and vacationing.
Other important sectors include forestry, more prevalent in the north of the region, and agriculture, particularly in the south, with its large number of poultry farms. Finally, the manufacturing industry also contributes to the economic vitality of the Matawin region.
