To download the guide and eligibility standards
Now it's easier for Lanaudière restaurateurs to develop their gourmet boxes in a more sustainable way! The Conseil de développement bioalimentaire de Lanaudière (CDBL) and the SADCs of Lanaudière, in collaboration with Tourisme Lanaudière, are launching the Eligibility guide and standardsa tool designed to support local gourmet businesses in the sustainable and responsible preparation of their takeaway boxes.
This practical guide presents clear standards to encourage the use of reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging materials, and aims to reduce the environmental impact generated by takeaway food boxes. In addition to proposing concrete recommendations adapted to various types of food products, including a majority of local and regional products, it encourages an eco-design approach and promotes local and eco-responsible suppliers. By complying, restaurateurs and producers not only help to preserve the environment, but also enhance the perceived quality of their offering, thus meeting the growing expectations of customers concerned about their ecological footprint.
Entirely financed by the SADCs of Lanaudière, this project stems from needs raised by both the Comité de gestion du développement touristique de D'Autray and Tourisme Lanaudière's Plan montagnes consultations. Papineau&CO, a local firm specializing in packaging design, optimization and technology, was commissioned to carry out a study on the eco-design of gourmet baskets. This study led to the production of the Eligibility guide and standards.
"We're very proud to have been the driving force behind this project, which offers great development potential for Lanaudière's biofood companies. Each lunchbox will feature examples of Lanaudière know-how. Our specialized consulting services will then enable us to provide appropriate support to the companies involved in this mobilizing project," says Karine Charpentier, General Manager of the CDBL.
"This tool will certainly help our Lanaudière businesses to make better eco-responsible choices when developing their meal box offers for their customers, whether they are restaurateurs or tourist businesses offering this type of product. This guide meets a growing need among our businesses, and follows the vision of the SADCs in terms of sustainable development of our territories", emphasize Jocelyn de Grandpré, General Manager of the SADC de D'Autray-Joliette, Claude Chartier, General Manager of the SADC Achigan-Montcalm and Jonathan Landreville, General Manager of the SADC Matawinie.
Upcoming pilot project
The literature from this study will also be used for a pilot project on the implementation of a gourmet basket system aimed at the region's tourist clientele. This second phase will be overseen by Tourisme Lanaudière's Plan montagnes, in collaboration with other regional players. More details to follow shortly.
