New company in Sainte-Émélie-de-l'Énergie: TANNERIE LAFORTUNE

The Société d'aide au développement de la collectivité (SADC) Matawinie is proud to announce setting up a new business, Tannerie Lafortune. Thanks to financial support from the Fonds d'investissement, a new company has opened in Sainte-Émélie-de-l'Énergie, Lanaudière.

Mr. François Lafortune started his tanning business in September 2017 under the name of Tannerie lafortune. The company's vision is first and foremost one of innovative development, offering fur tanning services for the region. The service is aimed at managing trappers and big game hunters, as well as taxidermists, clothing designers, fashion accessory manufacturers, individuals, tourist souvenir stores, outfitters and inns.

The services offered will focus on the fur trade, i.e. the sale and purchase of raw or ready-to-use furs and garments. Pelts will be purchased from accredited trappers and big game hunters, as well as from authorized auctions. The second service offered will be tanning, i.e. the preparation and cleaning of animal hides for leather-fur processing. Finally, the third component will focus on bone bleaching and fur processing for fashion accessories such as bear claw necklaces, skulls on bases, mittens, scarves, etc.

Having started trapping with his father at an early age, he has been dressing and tanning his own catches for the past 20 years. He has also taken several advanced seminars in leather and fur dressing and taxidermy. François Lafortune is also one of only three official scorers in the Lanaudière region for Trophée Québec, a registry that officially recognizes harvested trophy big game animals, with the aim of shedding light on the records that roam Quebec soil. Trophée Québec is an initiative of the Fédération québécoise des chasseurs et pêcheurs.
