The Comité Économie et Emploi Matawinie, an offshoot of the Comité local de développement social de la Matawinie, is launching its Matawinie Municipal Attraction Strategy project. The ultimate goal is to help potential new residents and entrepreneurs discover the advantages of settling in one of the Matawinie MRC's municipalities in the Lanaudière region. The project is made possible by the financial participation of the Ministère du Travail, de l'Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale, as part of a wage subsidy for the work experience component.
Based on a concerted action plan, the committee members launched this strategy at the end of February. In March 2020, when one of the first actions was to survey companies on their current and future human resources needs, the pandemic arrived. At the time, it was difficult to obtain contractors' staffing requirements, as all companies were - and still are - in a constant state of adjustment. As a result, the project had to be put on hold.

A specific survey of municipal authorities provided a wealth of important information. Bernarda Klatt, the person hired to carry out the research, has recently begun gathering the information she needs to create attraction tools.
The Matawinie region, which includes 15 municipalities, an Aboriginal reserve and unorganized territories, is located very close to the Montreal area. It offers many advantages for workers seeking an environment with quality of life and all the necessary services close at hand. What's more, even though the coronavirus pandemic has muddied the waters, our companies are still looking for new employees, in many fields, and will continue to do so after the pandemic.
SADC Matawinie is proud to pilot this project, which is supported by the Comité Économie et Emploi Matawinie, made up of the Rawdon Services Québec office, the Centre local d'emploi de Saint-Jean-de-Matha, the Rawdon Chambers of Commerce, Saint-Côme, Saint-Donat, Saint-Félix-de-Valois, Saint-Jean-de-Matha and Haute-Matawinie, the development corporations of Saint-Damien and Saint-Zénon, Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Matawinie and the MRC de Matawinie. SADC Matawinie is participating in the financing of the resource hired to carry out the project.
This project, which has been in the air for several years now, has taken longer than expected to get off the ground. We're delighted to finally be able to work on it together, for the benefit of all Matawin municipalities.
