Companies that do business with a CFDC or BDC in Quebec have a better survival rate, create many more jobs, and increase their payroll and sales more rapidly, even in times of economic crisis. This is confirmed by Statistics Canada's fifth study on the performance of the Community Futures Program (CFP), delivered by CFDCs and BDCs in Quebec.
STUDY HIGHLIGHTS
Every year since 2011, at the request of Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, Statistics Canada has been comparing various indicators for a group of CFDC and BDC client companies with a control group of similar companies that have not used their services. Each year, some 4,000 files are processed for companies with fewer than 100 employees. These businesses come from a wide range of sectors, including manufacturing, construction, retail (services) and wholesale.
The positive impact of CFDCs and BDCs is even greater for companies with fewer than 20 employees.
Here are the main results:
- Improved company survival rate: 76 % after five years of existence, compared with 50% for those in the control group.
- Increase in job creation: average increase of 2.6 % per year compared with 0.2 % in the control group. In companies with fewer than 20 employees, the average increase was 5.8 % compared to the control group.
at 0.5 %. - Faster sales growth: sales up by 5.9 % annually compared with 3.7 % for the control group.
- Faster payroll growth for companies: 6.3 % on average per year, versus 3.7 % for companies in the control group. For companies with fewer than 20 employees, the figures are 9.7 % versus 4 % for companies in the control group.
Daniel Dumas, President of the Réseau des SADC et CAE, is proud of the consistency of the results: "These data show that our organizations are improving business performance. The personalized support provided by SADC and BDC professionals, combined with financing, promotes the development of strong, sustainable businesses in the regions of Quebec, and in so doing, creates jobs."
A number of entrepreneurs testify to the importance of the SADC or CAE in the success of their project. This is the case for Matthieu Girard, owner of Saint-Hilarion-based IT services company MJS Inc., who says that "the SADC de Charlevoix, Côte-de-Beaupré et Île-d'Orléans helped us double our sales. The SADC is the best help for businesses. It enables entrepreneurs to put their ideas into action, create quality jobs and be much more competitive."
