Like many of Quebec's devitalized municipalities, Chertsey has had to redouble its efforts to regain momentum. Late yesterday, representatives of the federal and provincial governments in Lanaudière, elected officials from the Matawinie RCM, partners and Chertsey's business community gathered to welcome the new cycle of revitalization that lies ahead.
Indeed, a number of important news items were unveiled at this lively cocktail party: new infrastructures, new real estate developers, new businesses, a new visual identity and, after a very long absence, doctors at the CLSC.
"I'm delighted to see so many of the region's decision-makers and entrepreneurs here today. So many enthusiastic people and so much good news are certainly the first signs of revitalization. Our real economic boom begins today," says François Quenneville, Mayor of Chertsey.
Announcements in brief :
- A new water treatment plant will soon be built, capable of serving over 800 homes and businesses within the urban perimeter, and a brand-new fire station will also make its appearance.
- In the next few days, preliminary work will begin on the construction of a huge multi-purpose park for young and old alike.
- In terms of infrastructure, the Municipality of Chertsey is preparing to inject more than 9 M$ into the urban perimeter, to carry out these new projects. This is in addition to the 4.5 M$ invested this month in upgrading the municipality's roads. Most of this money comes from subsidies.
- The Municipality is adopting a new visual identity. The new logo, designed to reflect the image of this corner of the country, made up of lakes and mountains, born of vacationing and forestry, will appear gradually over the next few days.
- Six magnificent welcome signs, whose concept has just been unveiled, will soon be installed at the various entrances to the municipality.
- Operation Grande Séduction worked! Chertsey didn't have to create a cricket club, but after more than six years without a permanent doctor, the municipality welcomed not 1, but 4 doctors, thanks to the leaders of the CLSC and CISSS de Lanaudière!
- A new real estate developer, Beside Cabins, sets up in Chertsey. Phase 1 of a superb project is almost sold out. Construction to begin in spring. In figures: 10 new full-time jobs, 27 M$ in investment, 2 M$ in taxes over 5 years, 2.5 M$ in annual economic spin-offs, 35,000 visitors per year.
- Another company has just been launched. It's APPA, for Accès et priorité aux proches aidants, developed by caregivers and home helpers. The organization currently employs 4 people, but 25 jobs are planned for the coming year.
- Chertsey will soon be connected to the high-speed Internet via fiber optics, thanks to Connexion Matawinie, an independent network owned by the MRC. Another major launch for the municipality
Last but not least, the event took place at La Belle Église, the village church that has become a major performance venue and a new economic engine. Today's celebrations also marked its 150th anniversary. Everyone noticed that the old lady had been given a facelift thanks to recent interior and exterior renovations.
