CALM-NJ clusters come full circle

Presentation of the 2008-2016 learning outcomes report

Adopting a physically active lifestyle and healthy eating have been key concerns in Matawinie and Nord de Joliette for many years. It is within the Collectivité active lanaudoise Matawinie Nord de Joliette (CALM-NJ), a local group of Québec en Forme, that projects have been taking shape since 2008 to address this concern.

Evaluate the benefits and lessons learned from adopting VHS.
CALM-NJ was made up of over thirty committed partners who wanted to make a difference in the adoption of healthy lifestyle habits (SHV) by young people in their community. Faced with the end of the group's activities, its partners from the early childhood, school (primary and secondary), municipal, community and health sectors expressed the wish to promote the influence of its achievements and, above all, to preserve the gains of the past 9 years.

Between 2008 and 2016, 270 actions were deployed to promote a physically active lifestyle and healthy eating. "Of the sums granted by Québec en Forme, 847,060 $ were committed by the group, helping to create a significant leverage effect in the region. Nearly 60% of this sum was directly invested in action". says Emmanuelle Lefebvre of SADC Matawinie (fiduciary organization for CALM-NJ).

All this retrospection and the consultation process with our partners enabled CALM-NJ to identify key factors that helped mobilize stakeholders and keep this issue at the heart of our concerns:

  • The territorial governance structure has encouraged networking and the sharing of knowledge, equipment and human resources;
  • The influence of concerted actions in other environments serves as inspiration;
  • Maintain sensitivity to accessibility in the development of any project (temporal, financial, spatial, social).

What, then, will be left of the grouping in the area, asks Serge Perrault, an elementary school principal. "Young people who were able to develop new skills, new tools, new experiences and a sense of accomplishment. In the schoolyard, around the school, in the municipal park, in the gymnasium, on the skating rink, on the soccer field, at the beach, wherever young people could get together, they were enriched with notions that could guide them for the rest of their lives. They were enriched with notions that could guide them for the rest of their lives."
